Guiding Principles for Grantmaking

Welcome

The Presbytery of Northeast New Jersey is in the final stages of rolling out it’s new grant program. This spring, we are putting the program through its paces. To help, we’ve added several new pages to our website in an effort to inform you about the thorough and transparent process we have designed for “matching resources to needs”. If you find links that are broken, language that is unclear, information that is missing, or any other errors, please send an email to the Organizing Co-Leader, Steve Huston.

Grantmaking is one way of many that we as a presbytery live into God’s mission (Missio Dei) for the sake of the world God loves, and God calls us to a shared table of mission, where resources are distributed not for privilege or control, but for mutual flourishing. To that end, we believe the resources we steward are meant to be activated, shared, and celebrated. In this work, the presbytery acts as a partner in the gospel, stewards of grace, and builders of Christ’s beloved community.

At the heart of our grant strategy is the belief that Presbyterians Do Mission In Partnership and we affirm the principles of:

  • Shared Grace & Thanksgiving
  • Mutuality & Interdependence
  • Recognition & Respect
  • Open Dialogue & Transparency
  • Sharing of Resources

We also believe that success is achieved when:

  • Congregations are strengthened in their witness and vitality
  • Equity grows across cultural and economic contexts
  • Relationships deepen between congregations and across the presbytery
  • Stories of transformed lives, neighborhoods, and ministries are shared and celebrated

Finally, applications will be evaluated through these principles so we can  build a more vibrant, connected, and faithful presbytery. We may say “yes,” “yes with conditions,” “not yet,” or “no.” Denials will be communicated with respect, feedback, and encouragement for future partnership.
